Soyo SYKT880 DRAGON 2 Motherboard

Strengths: supports up to 12 HDD including 4 SATA, many features and options, generally good manual

Weakness: somewhat complex..not recommended for the novice system builder. Requires ATX 12V power supply which is not noted on soyos website, or in most of the retailers ads

This is my 30th+ motherboard, and second Soyo MB

Based on my very positive experiance with my previous Soyo (the KT7 dragon +) I decided to purchase this unit as an upgrade. The boards performance to date has be very fast and reliable. In the short time I have had it, I have not been disapointed.

This unit offers abundant features, including 12 HDD total, 4 SATA (bootable), onboard 8 channel sound and ethernet, 8 USB 2.0, true double data rate ram supporting upto 4GB.

Physical installation is typically easy. Setup was somewhat complex, but following the manual (verbatim) lead to positive results with no problems encountered. It should be noted that this MB requires an ATX 12V power supply, not ATX as listed at Soyo's website. This type of power supply has an extra 4 pin connetcor to supply 12 V to the MB. That said, there are no other unusual physical properties. To use the SATA drives with win XP requires loading drivers during the install. This takes extra time, but should present no significant difficulties if done in accordance with the instructions manual.

The manual was clearly NOT written in English, but with the exception of a few syntax errors is understandable and thorough. In fact, it is VERY thorough in regards to the motherboard itself, but offers no support regarding other components ie "if installing a WD HDD do this... if installing a Maxtor HDD do this... etc.

I have 1 reservation in recommending this board. If you have never built a computer before, avoid this MB due to its complexity. Otherwise, I have no reservations and recommend its purchase

Soyo SYKT880 DRAGON 2 Motherboard

Strengths: UP TO 12 DRIVES, a lot of USB AND FIREWIRE ports. Extremely overclockable and stable. Generally good board layout.

Weakness: Poor manual instructions, tight around the CPU, Firewire header cord sent with box does not fit board, not an easy board to set up.

Unless you are fimiliar with SOYO Boards, and how they worked for you before, I do not recomend getting this board. the set up is somewhat tricky, and may require a lot of trial and error. You will need to get updated SATA drives in order to fully utilize your SATA DVD Drives.

Only unexplainable item of note is when setting this board up with a creative sound card, you have to leave the onboard audio setting enabled in bios in order to use a soundcard. Otherwise you will not get a note out of it.

This board is not for the first time builder, and not someone who just wants to set up a system in an hour or so this is a weekend trial and error board that will offer great benifits once you get all the settings down right.

Good board

Strengths: Supports up to 12 drives includes Serial ATA option

Weakness: Unlike my prior Soyo Dragon this one does not come with a Digital card reader

I have always been pleased with Soyo products, This board is no exception. With Raid capability ,Serial ATA as well as the standard IDE. To my suprise it came with 2 Serial ATA cables, which is a good bonus. User manual is nothing a non-techy will have problems with. Overall great board!

SYKT880 DRAGON 2

Strengths: HAS 3 IDE AND 1 FLOPPY PORT.SUPPORTS MORE HARDRIVES AND HAS 8 CHANNEL AUDIO. 4 GB DUAL CHANNEL DDR MEMORY

Weakness: 1 YEAR WARRENTY COMPARED TO ASUS 3 YEAR WARRENTY

I HAVE AN ASUS A7N8X-E DELUXE MOTHERBOARD THAT WAS THE BEST UNTIL I PURCHASED THIS BOARD. I HAD BEEN LOOKING AT A 3 IDE PORT FOR 6 HARDDRIVE BOARD AT MSI. WHEN I DISCOVERED THIS BOARD I HAD TO HAVE IT.THIS BOARD IS VERY HARD TO FIND.I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE THAT HAS AN AMD PROCESSOR TO GET THIS BOARD.I HAD TO CLEAR COSMOS 3 TIME BEFORE I GOT IT TO WORK NORMAL. I HAD TO GET THE AUDIO DRIVE FROM THE WEB SITE FOR MY SOUND TO WORK.THE AUDIO DRIVE FROM THE DISC WOULDN'T WORK. THE MANUEL WAS GREAT. IF YOU READ THE MANUEL THE INSTALLATION WILL BE EASIER . IT DOES TAKE A WHILE IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE I HAD.I HAVE HAD THIS BOARD 25 DAYS .IT HAS BEEN WORKING GREAT .I HAVE 2GB DDR RAM ON ORDER TO GO WITH THE 1 GB I HAVE. THE BOARD IS FAST BUT IAM HOPING IT WILL BE MUCH FASTER. GOOD LUCK ON GETTING THIS BOARD.
