Asus P5AD2 Premium Motherboard

Strengths: Plethora of Serial ATA connectivity and options, next generation PCI Express technology, built-in wireless.

Weakness: Only one single channel (non-RAID) IDE controller limits number of legacy IDE Ultra ATA drives that can be used without specialized drivers.

This motherboard is fully loaded with built-in features, such as dual gigabit ethernet ports, firewire 1394b (800Mpbs) ports, 8 USB 2.0 ports, 8-channel high-sample rate digital audio interface, and several fan connectors on the motherboard. You probably won't need to add many peripheral cards unless you're using it for highly specialized or professional applications. The only card you'll need to add is a PCI Express video card... yes, your AGP graphics card will not fit in this motherboard. You'll need a PCI Express video card, which are not yet commonplace on retail shelves, but are slated as the next generation graphics display interface and bus.

Note that it is recommended that you have a newer style ATX power suppply that has a 24-pin power connector (not the older 20-pin connector) in order to provide adequate power for this motherboard. Although you can use the older style 20-ping connector, you may run into inadequate power conditions if you install more peripherals, like CD/DVD drives and internal hard drives and peripheral cards. You'll probably need a 350+ watt power supply to be safe.

Keep in mind that the Intel processors that go on these motherboards require adequate cooling. It's recommended that the ambient case temperature be less than 38-degrees Celcius (or less than 100-degrees Fahrenheit) for optimal operation. Make sure your case has adequate ventilation.

One more thing... if you have several IDE Ultra ATA hard drives that you need to install in addition to CD/DVD drives, then you'll want to know that there's only a single channel of standard Ultra ATA controller port. That means you can hook up two devices (master and slave). You can use the other two channels of IDE RAID for your hard drives, but keep in mind that the controller requires a drivers disk (which you can create from the included CD-ROM) when you install your operating system, i.e. Windows XP or 2000.

Good luck!

Asus P5AD2 Premium Motherboard

Strengths: This board has it all and has the latest technology.

Weakness: No weaknesses as of yet.

This board really pushes the overclocking limit. Asus outdid themselves with this board and your ability to control the amount of overclocking that you want and when you need it. Overall performance of this board is great.

Asus P5AD2 Premium Motherboard

Strengths: fast, reliable, plenty of connectors, super overclocker, good bundle

Weakness: only thing i can think of is that the 4 pin p4 connector is a bit far away

this board is very fast, it can beat other boards in same tests, yet is still very stable. even though there is only 1 regular ide channel, you can still use the raid controller ports as regular ide, just set the bios right and it will work. you can even put 1 channel of the ite controller on raid and the other on regular ide. it can automaticly adjust fan speeds according to temp, and can "tell you" what is wrong when booting up by talking to you. You can customize the startup splash screen, oc in windows, and flash the bios within windows too. the bundle is nice, and there is a cable for every ide/sata port on the board, and the intervideo bundle. this one support latest 64bit intel cpus, and runs cooler then other because of the extra layer of pcb on the back. one of the best boards ever, highly recommended
