Get another brand

Strengths: Price for a fully working DX9.0c card

Weakness: Terrible heat issues, cooler installation was wrong, poor performance even when the cooler was installed correctly.

I purchased this card after reading many reviews of the GF 6600GT series of cards, especially the XFX version of this card. Needless to say I am quite disappointed with what I received.

FYI: The card you see pictured above is not the one you will receive.

XFX has changed their production process for their 6600GT series of cards. No longer will you get 1.6ns memory, they are now including 2.0ns. Which by itself it not necessarily bad, but every review currently out there was done with the 1.6ns memory. You will not be able to get the same results that the reviewers have gotten in the past.

The worst part of the changes XFX made with this card was the heat sink and cooler. The cooler they are now shipping on the card is a small underpowered piece of crap, not the nVidia standard 6600GT cooler.

I removed the cooler, cleaner all surfaces with 100% Isopropyl Alcohol then re-installed it with Artic Silver 5. The result: the GPU runs at 55c even at IDLE with no overclocking. Under full load it hits 80c+. This “updated” cooler XFX is using now is terrible.

I can’t play Half-Life without choppiness as the card is throttling down because of excess heat. In 3DMark 2003, this card gets a lower score than my FX5950. Again because of heat related throttling.

If you buy this card plan on buying a third party cooler as well. Or make sure you get an older version of the card that has the standard nVidia heat sink and fan. That way you can get the 1.60ns memory as well.

Check the XFX boards and you will see lots of other people with these same heat problems. www.xfxforce.com/phpBB...

yeah mine gets 51 degrees C on full load. complain and tell them you'll revoke your review if they give you a new card. there should be no competition with a 5950.

No regret

Strengths: Plays games fluidly. Good card for the price.

Weakness: Understanding that the drop in price is cheaper parts than first used in card B4. Had to order Zalman cooler for card

Really love this card (reason im purchasing better fan). The sayin 'you get what you pay for' is exactly right. There are higher priced cards that you can purchase if you have the resource and the need, but this card has captivated me. Running great fps with my new AMD 3000 ($129) in Counter-Strike Source....130 fps overclocked to 562 mhz and 1.12 ghz memory. Aquamark benchmark 57 fps(my brothers' comp..3.4 512mb L2 Intel and 6800GT 256mb vid ....65 fps!!!!) GREAT PERFORMANCE FOR PRICE 6600GT BABY!!!

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: price/performance

Weakness: none

Oh man, games run beautifully! Maxed out quality, resolution settings. And when I'm not playing games (when?) I have two 2048x1536 desktops. nVidia's included desktop manager software has a ton of usability features, I love the window snap-to feature, and I haven't even tried most of them yet.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: Latest technology, latest DirectX (9.0c) support, low cost, AGP, dual DVI.

Weakness: None so far.

I was upgrading my son's computer to play the current generation of games and I gave him my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card. I needed a new video card for myself, and always being an ATI fan, was looking at the Radeon 9800 Pro. I was surprised to see that the "old" 9800 Pro was still in the $230-250.00 price range and I figured everyone was upgrading to play the latest games so the demand for good graphics cards was keeping the prices high. When I shopped for the 9800 Pro I noticed many vendors were "out-of-stock" and even ATI was backordered. That is when I stumbled across the Nvidia GeForce 6 series video cards. I wasn't even considering the "latest chipset" cards since they are always priced into the stratosphere when they first come out. I searched the 6800 series cards and the prices were as expected. I looked for some information on the web and came across the 6600 series. I didn't want the "low-end" card in the chipset and I noticed the 6600 GT. I liked the specs and searched Pricegrabber for available cards. Quite a few cards came up but they were all PCI-Express so I filtered my results to show only AGP cards. Only one vendor came up - XFX. I was surprised to see the price was very reasonable for a "current" generation card and it was even less than an "older" generation Radeon 9800 Pro. I read some reviews and checked the benchmarks for this card and was quite impressed. The 6600 GT beat the 9800 Pro in the latest games by a wide margin. The 9800 Pro only tops the 6600 GT in older games at the higher resolutions because of its 256-bit memory architecture versus the 6600 GT's 128-bit.

The XFX 6600 GT retail package comes with the video card, instruction and quick start manuals, tv-out video cable, TWO digital to analog output connectors (the card is dual-DVI capable), drivers disk and three games - X2 The Threat, Nascar Thunder 2004 and Commandos 3.

Since I am in the middle of Christmas shopping I haven't had a chance to play many games with this card but a few minutes of Doom 3 convinced me that I made a wise purchase. The game runs at the highest quality settings without a glitch or stumble and my system benchmarks are higher than I ever expected. I am very pleased with this card and the money I saved considering my video card is "current" technology.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: I run it at 1024x768 with good performance during half life 2 and doom 3 Using an: p4, 3.0 ghz, 1.0 gb ram, 480 psu

Weakness: When booting up it has a high pitched whir which silences after everything starts running. The included games weren't impressive

The first card was a nvidida 5500oc which I keep as a backup. Purchased the 6600GT card because of better specs, it has proven gameworthy with 3D intense games such as Half Life 2 and Doom 3

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: a very good card for the price compared to the mega prices of the top cards, so I would say a good performance/price tradeoff.

Weakness: the GPU core temparature rises very quickly while playing games, definitely this card can use a better fan, this can be a big bottleneck, the card slowed down a lot with dynamic lighting and shadows

i think the card is pretty good for the price, will love to try 256MB version if there is one out there and also if there is an XFX version with better cooling system. I think these two factors might enhance the performance a lot

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: Next-generation design which beats many of the current hi-end video cards.

Weakness: 128 MB RAM, anti-aliasing slowls it down more then you might expect.

This is THE budget Doom 3 card! It easily competes with video cards now selling for 400 dollars! The reason for this is that it is one of the first in the next generation of video cards. The AGP version is essentially identical to the PCI-Express version, which supports the option to run this card in a SLI configuration (which essentially means you can run two cards at once and double the performance as each card will render half the info) While I don't this is an option YET, I'm sure it will be in the near future.

If you've been waiting for a good card that won't break the bank, this is it.

If you do a Google search on 6600 cards in SLI you will see that the performance increase is nowhere near double. In fact, if you look at "bang for your buck" buying the second card is a poor option as the performance increase is minimal.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: 2 DVI, overclocks to 570 core and 1140 memory, easy to install

Weakness: the software pakage is weak. the games are low quality

i have upgraded from a pny ti4200 and i am very happy the price is right at below $200. i would loved a 6800gt or ultra with 2 dvi. but they are expencive at $400. i bought this card because of the 2 dvi, price, and performence.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: good memory, good value

Weakness: game bundle

I have owned this card for about 4 months now. It has worked great for the games that I have been playing. I am not an overclocker, so I don't know how it works in that area. The games bundle is fairly lame (I never heard of any of the games it comes with). Seems to be a driver issue with hardware acceleration enabled in some DVD playback applications. But playback is software mode takes care of that. Excellent performance for the money. If you have an AGP slot and can't afford a 6800 ultra or radeon 850 this is the card to get.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: When it works it's a fast card with a lot of features and allows you to play all the popular games.

Weakness: My card seems defective as it locks up the computer on 2 different systems -- I need to get an rma from XFX.

This card caused problems in the 2 computers I tried it in, an AMD Barton 3000+ (abit motherboard) and an Intel Pentium 4 3.0ghz (asus motherboard).

Both systems had trouble booting after installing this card. After resetting several times, it eventually boots, then after about 3-4 minutes, the system would lock up. I reset, then it has trouble booting again and eventually after several resets it will boot up, only to lock up again. THEN, after going through the entire process again the system seems to work fine and doesn't lock up (although I fear it will at any moment as I'm using it).

I tried to think of what could be causing this but I've decided it could just be defective. I even upgraded my the power supplies to 550w just to be sure it wasn't a power issue. I also tried lowering the clock settings in coolbits/nvtweak but no luck. Both systems have 1 gig of memory. I have since bought an MSI 6600gt card and installed it in the Barton/abit system and it works without any problems (again pushes me in the direction that the XFX might be defective). I'm still going to use the XFX as long as the replacement works. I plan to try it in another computer just for the heck of it before getting an rma.

Has anybody had problems running this card on a PC with a 250W power supply? I know Nvidia recommends 300W min, but I'd like to know if anyone has tried. My PC only has 250W and would like to buy this card if it works well with it.

thanks

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: Fast, cool, and quiet. Decent software bundle.

Weakness: AGP price high compared to PCI Express.

It was either going to be the 6600GT or the 9800 Pro - both were the right price for what I was building. You can find reviews that tout either board. Some say ATI can't be beat, more have the nVidia as the clear winner. In the end, it was the total package with the XFX 6600GT - good reviews, good price, good reputation.

The card has turned out to be a very solid performer. Every game I throw at it flies with high resolution and details turned all the way up. It may be out of date a little sooner than those $400 cards, but for now you don't need anything else.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: Digital, produces beautiful sharp images and doesn't lag.

Weakness: Instructions don't mention the extra power supply cord needed from your power supply into the back of the card.

Wonderful card, I couldn't be happier. For the money this is the #3 card out right now and you can't beat it unless you're willing to spend $400. I've been playing World of Warcraft with it and the game is absolutely beautiful with this card, I feel like I'm in a movie.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: Extremely fast, DirectX 9 support, low cost, Dual DVI support

Weakness: None

This card is absolutely amazing! The effects that you will see with this card will stun you. The DirectX 9 support is great and makes all games look good. The games no longer stutter. It comes with a good software package (Commandos 3!!!). The benchmarks of this card beat the Radeon 9800! This is an all-around great card!

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: Great benchmarks and excellent price/performance ratio.

Weakness: Not-so-quiet heatsink fan.

I waited several months for the AGP version to come out. I was really tempted to get the Radeon 9800 Pro but I decided to hold out. I am sooooo glad I did.

This graphics card is awesome. If you're budget concious like me, but want a high-performance graphics card, you cannot go wrong with this one. I've played Half Life 2, Far Cry, and Flight Sim 2004 with all the graphics settings maxed out and the 6600 GT handled them like a champ.

If you are on the fence about this card, just read all the glowing reviews on the web.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: no

Weakness: price

This one sucks. My PC will hang up whenever I play a game such as Medal of Honor, Call of Duty. There is no problem with my old FX 5200. It is more likely I have received a defective item.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: Great videocard for the money but it should be under $200

Weakness: Not as fast as the FX6800 Over Clocked from BGF and the price is very similar.

I looked for a mid-end card for a while.... I almost went for 9800pro but was disappointed by it's high price for an old card. I also checked the 9800XT it's price was also ridiculous high for being outdated. I don't know what ATI is thinking. I kept looking and found out that Nvidia 6600gt was the card for me but unfortunately it was PCI express. I didn't feel like buying a new motherboard, then I saw an add there they had the FX6800 OC for $249.00. I'm sorry to say it but this card even with 128mb running at 700mhz kills the 6600gt. Yes, thanks to it's better 6800 chip. Plus this card has 12 pipeline cache instead of 8. So dudes keep looking, the 6600gt is a great card but you can do better with the 6800 OC whichever brand you choose.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: Meets needs of anyone except extreme gamers.

Weakness: Loud fan; shrill sound when zooming.

The 6600 GT GPU itself is very good, and with the latest driver, it provides all the power that all but the most serious of gamers could want. For its price (~$200), certainly you cannot go wrong with this.

The fan of this unit does get fairly loud, as many people have complained about. Moreover, after installing this card, my computer started to produce a high-pitched shrill sound whenever I zoomed into a picture above a certain percentage (around 80% of my screen).

Overall a good card, and I'm happy made the purchase.

XFX Geforce 6600 GT Graphics Card

Strengths: AWESOME POWER, PERFORMANCE, PRICE, and surprisingly quiet!

Weakness: 0, Zero, Zilch, None, Notta'

This card is definetly the best 8X AGP Card I've ever owned, and I've had some great cards. Nvidia has it going ON. Now ATI will be playing the catch-up to Nvidia again as they used to. My son has the PCIx2 version of this card and it's even more remarkable he's wanting another to go with SLI set-up. Doom 3 with everything on HIGH it screams the same with UT 2004, Nascar Thunder, and every other game I've played with it.
