Intel Core 2 Duo E6400

Strengths: Efficient CPU, fast CPU, easy to install CPU (no pins), clear instructions, much higher bang for the buck than an AMD processor

Weakness: Weak and inefficient HSF, hard to install HSF

I'm sure all of you have already read about the performance of the Core 2 Duo series. It is a dual core CPU, meaning it is good at multitasking. It has also benchmarked above many more expensive AMD processors. The HSF that is included with the retail box is terrible. It is loud and it generally keeps the CPU 15C higher than a $20 HSF like the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. A major complaint that...

Intel finally get's it right!!

Strengths: Great performer; good install documentation; 3-year warranty

Weakness: Same cheap stock-fan

I am building two new systems, one budget (the e6300) and one and middle-of the road on the other (the e6400). The price difference was substantial, as the e6300 was more heavily discounted upon inital release. However, the next jump to the e6600 was really significant, so I stuck with the e6400. This went into an ASUS P5WDH Deluxe motherboard with PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM, and it worked great from the...

Best bang for the buck

Strengths: Overclocking, budget price

Weakness: None

This chip really is the best bang for the buck in the core 2 duo line. You get a higher multiplier than the E6300 for more stable overclocking and it's still $100 less than the E6600. Pick up a gigabyte DS3 or asus p5b to go with it and you can't go wrong.

Killer CPU with dual 64-bit cores!

Strengths: FASSSSTTT, stock hsf is extremely quiet for its size, games run incredible!

Weakness: none yet!

I have used AMD products for years now. I finally took the plunge and bought INTEL after reading many reviews on the new conroes. I have to tell you that it was the BEST decision I could have made. This thing makes my old AMD XP 2500 look like a P2. I had oc-ed my AMD all the way to 3200 speeds and the conroe still makes it look like a dog. I play alot of games. This was one of the main reasons...

Efficient and Powerful Processor

Strengths: Great at overclocking. Cooler and more energy efficient than Intel's Pentium 4 generation chips. Competitive pricing.

Weakness: Stock heatsink fan is not good enough if you want to overclock the chip to higher speeds.

Amazing chip. It's been a long time since a CPU has been able to overclock like the Core 2 Duo line of processors. Although the stock heatsink fan isn't the best, it's good enough for a mild overclock given a quality motherboard and fast RAM. I've swapped mine out for an aftermarket cooler so everything is quieter and cooler now. Right now is the time to invest in a dual core chip. The e6400 is...

Blazing Fast!!!

Strengths: Best Bang for the Buck Conroe Processor! Runs everything blazing fast! Great OC potential

Weakness: None really other then trying to find a good mobo for it!

I had an AMD x2 3800. It was Oced up to about 2.65 prime stable for about 16 hours. I thought that was a great processor paired with my x1900 xtx. Boy was I wrong. This Conroe 6400 processor is in a class by itself. It blows my old AMD processor away. I've just started to experiment with this guy and have already got it up to 3.2 with no problems. Let me forewarn you not to skimp on components to...

Smooth

Strengths: The fan is very quiet and the temperature is quite low.

Weakness: The heatsink / fan is quite hard to install into the motherboard. The thermal liquid is not silver.

The price is just right and and fast enough for most gamers. Unless you are buying this for 3d rendering and etc, this is average for it. But, be sure to have efficient of 667mhz dual channel memories.

Rock Solid

Strengths: fast, and quitet

Weakness: finding a motherboard was tough

This is a great processor for the price. This is the first Intel chip that I have bought and it is great. Finding the motherboard was tough, not suprising given the release date was just a few days ago, I would imagine with time this will be corrected.

Awesome CPU, Weak Stock HSF

Strengths: Super Performance + Super Low Price = Super Bang for the Buck!

Weakness: Weak performing and loud stock HSF

I love this CPU, it runs nice and cool, the dual cores allow me to multitask to my heart's content. Only thing I didn't like was the retail HSF is rather weak performing and loud if you don't control it with your motherboard. It seems like Intel hasn't changed their HSF design as the HSF is sold with the old retail P4 CPU packages.

Conroe shreds the competition!

Strengths: Blows away anything AMD could possibly offer in its price range. This is coming from a former AMD fanboy.

Weakness: Lacks the 4mb shared cache of the bigger Conroes, but then again it really doesn't make much of a difference unless you're a benchmark fiend.

I received this processor as a gift and even with only 512 megs of memory it felt like night and day compared to my old socket 939 Opteron 148. The multitasking you can do and the sheer power this processor brings to the table makes it worth every penny you pay for it and arguably one of the best bang-for-buck processors out there now. Highly overclockable!

Intel Core 2 Duo & Core Extreme Processors, Chipsets And Performance Analysis

In every benchmark we ran, both of the Core 2 processors we tested outperformed the Athlon 64 FX-62 and Athlon 64 5000+, and they handily outpaced the Pentium Extreme Edition 965 as well. The Core 2 Duo E6700 and Core 2 Extreme X6800 put up some of the fastest benchmark scores we have seen to date. Clock-for-Clock, the Core 2 Duo E6700 and Core 2 Extreme X6800 are faster than any other desktop...
