Too much of a good thing

Strengths: Large real estate, relatively inexpensive, USB Hub, multiple inputs

Weakness: Overly bright, saturation is absurdly overdone (wide gamut), no OSD, Anti-glare coat gives the display a "dirty" look.

Wide Gamut monitors in theory sound like a good thing, you get more color representation as the monitor tries to obtain displaying 96% of the Adobe RGB 1998 color profile as opposed 92%. Now that sounds nice, you get 4% more colors but the RGB data sent to a wide gamut display colorimetric's distance between any two colors is much larger. This means you gain more colors at the cost of less accuracy. Using the Delta E as the index for the color measurement, an RGB color of 240,250,200 and 240,250,201 would normally have a Delta E difference of about 1 on a regular LCD, 2 on a Adobe RGB display and on a wide gamut. That's a two fold increase on the Adobe RGB, and 4 on the standard. However, the OS, graphics card, Apps and so forth would all need to recognize this to make use of the colors accurately.

So what does all this translate to? This display looks displays colors overly brilliantly. Remember the color setting on your old CRT TV? Its the same effect without the bleeding where the colors are unrealistic and eye fatiguing. The HP is no different. I stupidly ordered this instead of the 305T but found it unusable for motion graphics as it was too bright, too overblown and too inaccurate. As a motion graphics editor I don't demand the same precision as my print media friends do but I do want a display I can stare at for hours and displays the colors well. THe 3065 is NOT that display.

I've used several 30 inch displays. To this day the 305T has been my favorite. I'm boxing this and sending it back. With OS X, there's simply no hardware controls for nVidia but even in windows this display is disgustingly overdone.

Of course you can listen to all the positive reviews, but if you value accuracy at all this is not the display for you.

One strange feature that's welcome but totally unnecessary is the 3065 sports 3 inputs. Seeing that the display cannot do scaling it will not double as an HDTV. It will only accept 1280 x 800 or 2560 x 1600.

Big and Great!

Strengths: Size, Size, Size, 3 DVI, USB input, Price

Weakness: No scaler, No Video input, Minimum control (Brightness only)

Great monitor: Amazing real estate, no dead pixel, good image quality for desktop app and games, great refresh speed for games (could not see any ghosting). Great price ($1000) I haven't tested video on it or the adjustable height since it stayed at minimal height. Cable access is somewhat difficult due to the size but that is nothing to fault this monitor as I have the same problem with my 24'....

fabulous!

Strengths: humungus screen real estate, good viewing angles, beautiful image quality

Weakness: price, but as far as 30" monitors go, i got it for the very good price of $1400 minus $100 rebate.

I was considering the Apple 23", Acer 24", Apple 30", Samsung 30", Dell 30", HP 30". At one point, I even considered 2 Acer 20" displays side by side which would have come out to ~$450. - good image quality (but not top-shelf pro like eizo)
- price
- screen real estate

I worked extensively with the Apple 30" displays when I worked for a company, and so it was hard for me to go to a smaller 24" or a split screen dual 20" setup.

I ruled out the Dell pretty quickly based on reviews, cut out the Samsung since it came out a while ago, and then struggled over this and the Apple 30" display. Although Apple has not upgraded their displays in a while, I know well and love the 30" display.

All the HP displays at retail stores were hooked up to PCs and appeared "crunchy" to me, but based on excellent online reviews, I bit the bullet and purchased one.

Out of the box, the image was a bit too saturated + unnaturally vivid. Using Apple's calibrating tools, I got the image to look just like the Apple displays. Granted, I didn't compare them side to side, but I worked with the Apple 30" display extensively at work, so I was pleasantly surprised that the LP3065 seems to be of equal quality for about $500 less.

At this price point, I was willing to shell out the extra $500 to get better image quality, but I'm glad I went with the HP. Clear text, gorgeous pictures and video image.

Came with 1 dead pixel. I can live with that, so no complaints. At 1st, it appeared to have many dead pixels and I was super-bummed. But I took the advice of a website which suggested you gently "massage" the lcd - essentially, lightly "wiping" the "dead pixel" and all but 1 disappeared!

My laptop does not have the specs to hook up to the HP monitor, but when I upgrade to a macbook pro, I'm very happy to have the option of switching inputs from my laptop to my desktop at the push of a button. But this is icing on the cake.

The monitor is gorgeous and I'm so glad I got the 30". Can't imagine less screen real estate now...lol

Like a Big Swiss Army Knife!!

Strengths: Clear, crisp, and bright images. Multiple DVI inputs. Stable, yet highly adjustable stand.

Weakness: Not as big a variety of types of inputs as some others. Not the most stylish kid on the block. Cable management not stellar. No on screen menus.

Near the cream of the crop of the current supersized monitors. Great to look at and the abundant screen acreage may take some time to adjust to. I did, and now it is easy to use the space well; it has increased my productivity, by a significant amount. If you, by chance, have multiple cpus or DVI based sources this is the perfect central monitor for quick flips between sources. OK, maybe not...
