A good card for a new build!

Strengths: Supports high resolution. DX10 ready. Affordable compared to higher models. EVGA Limited Lifetime Warranty (Must register product or else 30 days warranty only).

Weakness: Card stock fan is the loudest in my case right now. Manual didn't give clear instructions that an extra power plug must be attached to the card; card went to low power mode though in Windows XP.

I decided to create a new build after a couple of years. I needed a good video card and I saw this one. I was able to get this card at a good price. I didn't want anything to fancy, since I am not a heavy gamer, but would last a couple years without the need of an upgrade. This card just fits the bill. This card supports DX10, and provides high resolution. I use a 19" Wide Screen LCD monitor and...

Decent video card but average for gaming

Strengths: DX10 ready; HDCP

Weakness: 128bit; stock cooler;

It's a decent card and I can play some recent games at medium setting. It's DX10 ready but I doubt that it can handle DX10 games when they come available. It does have HDCP which, I guess, is good for watching and edit DVD movies. The overall performance on DX9 games is on par with 7900GS at medium resolutions. But at high resolutions, they're not at same page, 7900GS is better. I don't like the...

Decent bang for the buck.

Strengths: DX10, good clock speeds, single-slot heatsink/fan, my personal (not with this card but many others) good experiences with EVGA's warranty terms.

Weakness: Doesn't overclock nearly as well as the (relatively underclocked) 8800-series cards, 128-bit memory interface.

This is a card I've owned for a few days and have become a fan of. In the previous series of nvidia-based cards (the 6x00 and 7x00/7950 series), it always seemed wortwhile to buy a card in the highest available line (i.e. a 6800 or 7900-series card) as they always offerend better performance for the dollar. However, this 8600-card, for my money, offers as good of a bang-for-the buck performance...

EVGA video card

Strengths: DVI and S-video output, VGA connector, good performance

Weakness: Ugly NVIDIA controls for the displays, no video capture

This card is fast and performs well so far in games and video playing. I planned to use it for my computer display and TV out using "clone" capability. Couldn't make it work for the TV so far: widescreen resolution screws up the TV output so I don't see the entire displey on TV. I do video capturing from VCR and it would be great if producers continue to enable VIVO features on mid-to-high-end...

GeForce 8600GTS Video Card (256MB, PCI Express x16,...

Strengths: Easy to install; Gave great Vista Scores; warranty, trade-up program

Weakness: none

I purchased this card specifically because I needed it to improve my Vista Score and to gain access to AERO. It works great. It needs power from your power supply so be sure that you have a 400 watt with 26 amps on the +12 volt. This is the gamer version but I don't play games but it seems plenty fast, clear and responsive for my needs.

EVGA e-GeForce 8600 GTS (PCI-e, 256MB)

THE GOOD: Affordable mainstream gaming performance; improved HD video play; single-card solution. THE BAD: Questionable performance compared to a higher-end card that costs just a little more; ATIs next-generation cards are right around the corner; requires a direct connection to your PCs power supply. THE BOTTOM LINE: If you care more about HD movie watching than gaming and you need a new video...
